The world’s most watched mountain biking event, Crankworx Cairns, is underway at Smithfield and has been given a giant thumbs up by athletes and spectators who say the tracks are bigger and better than they have seen before. Having the many finishes converge into a central area has made the viewing particularly exciting for the spectators who have helped deliver 26,000 visitor nights for the region.
Millions of mountain biking fans across the world will have their screens tuned to Crankworx Cairns to see the 750 competitors tackling the rainforest trails. They will also see footage of the athletes enjoying the region including bungy jumping, snorkelling, watching wildlife and relaxing with a meal and drinks. The event runs until Sunday and will return to Cairns in May 2023.
