Jobs campaign lures southerners

Around 900 Work in Paradise applicants have moved to Tropical North Queensland to take up jobs in the tourism industry with 50% moving to Cairns and 40% to Douglas Shire. The Work in Paradise campaign is now targeting 18-35-year-olds in Melbourne and Sydney and has seen a jump of 900 page views to 30,000 in just a week.

With quarantine-free travel now allowed for vaccinated people, an increase in the number of program applicants is expected. More employers are asking for jobs to be posted to the site to help boost their profile with job seekers while the campaign is driving people to the site. Employers can email [email protected] to post tourism jobs or create an employer profile on the site.

The incentive guidelines have been updated in response to tourism workers having their hours reduced while border closures impacted visitation. This includes a new Type 2 eligible employment category allowing employees to work for two employers, a new definition of continuous employment, and extensions to both the application period and payable incentive dates.
