NQ airfare sale a success

Airline bookings to North Queensland for travel between January and March increased by 200% compared to the same period last year thanks to the Qantas sale campaign to stimulate travel in the wake of Cyclone Jasper.

Almost 70% of the seats discounted in the Qantas five-day sale were taken up in the first 72 hours. The best-selling route was Brisbane to Cairns, followed by Brisbane to Mackay, Sydney to Cairns, Brisbane to Townsville, and Melbourne to Cairns.

Jetstar’s 48-hour Cairns sale also increased bookings to the region between late January and February by almost 200% compared to the same time last year. Brisbane to Cairns and Sydney to Cairns were the most popular routes.

Qantas Chief Customer Officer Catriona Larritt said it was great to see Australians get behind North Queensland communities and snap up the discounted fares.

The package is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
