Lizard Island has been central to the research of Dr Penny Berents for more than 40 years. The Senior Fellow at the Australian Museum Research Institute participated in the first Australian Museum expedition to Lizard Island in 1975 and is now a Trustee of the Lizard Island Research Foundation. Passionate about conducting biodiversity surveys in coral reefs and deep seas, Penny established the marine invertebrate database at the Australian Museum and is currently documenting small crustaceans called cerapodine amphipods. A group of 12 people will be joining Penny on a sold-out Lizard Island Reef Expedition in November to access special parts of the Great Barrier Reef and learn about the challenges it faces.
