The one-month countdown is on for the 20th anniversary of the Undara Rock & Blues Festival on April 24-26 with locals encouraged to head west and support operators along the Savannah Way.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) Chief Executive Officer Mark Olsen said the annual music festival at Discovery Parks – Undara was a great incentive to plan a road trip on the iconic drive with the visitor season beginning on April 1 with the opening of Cobbold Gorge.
“Locals eagerly await the Easter holidays to start heading west and enjoy the cooler weather of the Savannah Way country with the season in full swing when the Undara Rock & Blues Festival kicks off on the Anzac Day weekend,” he said.
“This year more than ever the Savannah Way needs visitors after four years of prolonged wet weather shortening the visitor season and the most recent floods impacting infrastructure at Einasleigh and isolating some residents for almost four months,” he said.
“Now is the time to book your stay at places like Discovery Parks to explore the stunning Undara Lava Tubes and Cobbold Gorge where you can tour via boat or standup paddle board through Queensland’s youngest gorge in the accessible Outback.”
Gulf Savannah Development Chief Executive Officer Neil O’Brien said the Savannah Way region was open for business through to Etheridge and encouraged travellers to check local Council websites for up-to-date information about road conditions.
“The roads to Undara and Cobbold Gorge are now open after parts of the Gulf Savannah region have been isolated since December,” he said.
“The country is green, the wildlife is plentiful and the locals will welcome you with their generous country hospitality.”
Chief Executive Officer and Founder of G’day Group and Discovery Resorts Grant Wilckens said the Undara Rock & Blues Festival had drawn hundreds of music lovers to the edge of Undara Volcanic National Park for two decades, cementing its place as one of outback Queensland’s most distinctive cultural events.
“Events like the Undara Rock & Blues Festival not only showcase incredible Australian talent, they also play an important role in supporting regional communities by bringing visitors, creating local opportunities and celebrating the unique character of iconic destinations like Undara,” he said.
“At Discovery Resorts, we’re committed to creating destination-led experiences that give people a compelling reason to travel, stay longer and connect with regional Australia.”
Cobbold Gorge Business Development Manager Glenda Daly said Cobbold Gorge would open on April 1 with graded roads, plenty of fuel and stunning green scenery.
“We have an Easter program for the whole family and offer a Bali-style holiday in your own backyard with our infinity pool and swim-up bar,” she said.
The 2026 Undara Rock & Blues Festival lineup features a strong mix of acclaimed and crowd-favourite performers including Ezra Lee, Hussy Hicks, George and Noriko, Ben Ford Davies and Tim Griffin.
With limited onsite capacity and strong demand expected for the 20th anniversary celebration, festival-goers are encouraged to book quickly. Only a small number of accommodation packages, including two festival tickets, remain available. For tickets and accommodation packages, visit Discovery Resorts – Undara.
