Tourism can change the way people think and engage with the Great Barrier Reef by giving them direct, personal access. Collectively, we have the power to promote a united GBR tourism message via visitors, media and travel trade and increase tourism’s profile as an important reef custodian.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland and Tourism and Events Queensland in partnership with Tourism Australia, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation will be delivering a series of forums in February.
These are designed to engage directly with tourism operators in Great Barrier Reef destinations to ensure consistent messages about the value of the GBR and the contribution tourism makes, as well as the ways consumers can get involved to understand both the challenges and opportunities of the GBR. Results of research undertaken in 2018 to understand domestic and international travellers attitudes and perceptions of the Reef and TEQ’s new strategic plan for marketing the reef will be shared as part of the session.
