Local support for Cassowary Coast small businesses

Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) Chief Executive Officer Alex de Waal said the addition of Cassowary Coast consultants to the business panel would help more businesses in that region access the service and grow their business. “Who better to advise on your business than someone who lives in and understands your region,” he said.

With more than a decade’s experience providing services to small businesses throughout TNQ, Ruth Faulkner from Conus Business Consulting is working with her first client through the TNQ Tourism Small Business Development Program.

“We’ve held a mentoring session with a Cardwell fishing charter and training company whose business is growing rapidly and we are developing a business plan together to ensure their long-term sustainability and success,” she said.

By booking a mentoring session through the program, small businesses can have the professional fees subsidised, in some cases by up to 75 per cent.

As part of the TNQ Tourism Small Business Development Program, TTNQ will be visiting the Cassowary Coast on Tuesday May 23 for the Conversations with TTNQ workshop. Supported by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council and Tropical Coast Tourism, the workshop will enable attendees to meet the team who market the Cassowary Coast as a travel destination to the rest of the world.

The TTNQ team will provide updates on current market activity (Japan, Western, China and Domestic), information about new digital opportunities, guidance about staging local events, and outline membership options.

The program is supported by the Australian Small Business Advisory Services – Northern Australia Tourism Initiative, an Australian Government initiative. It is for TTNQ member and non-member businesses (or start-ups) that receive a significant portion of revenue from tourism and have fewer than 20 full-time equivalent employees. Businesses and business intenders can participate in as many activities as they would like.

For more information on the mentoring sessions available or to book your spot in the Conversations with TTNQ workshop, go to ttnq.org.au and click on Resources and then Small Business.
