Activating Tourism in Gordonvale and Babinda

In partnership with Cairns Regional Council, Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) is holding an Activating Tourism workshop for people about to start a tourism business and existing small tourism businesses.

TTNQ Chief Executive Officer Pip Close said the workshop would provide a good opportunity for meeting and networking with other businesses operating in tourism in the area.

“Savanah Guides and Savannah Way Limited Manager Russell Boswell will explain how to uncover or reimagine a business’s story and share it in a compelling way for an exceptional tourism experience,” she said.

“With a background in education and marketing, Russell’s tourism career has included tour and safari operation, magazine publishing and tour guide training.

“Russell sits on several industry committees and is the proud recipient of a Cassowary Award for services to Wet Tropics nature-based tourism.

“Troy Haines from theSPACE will show attendees how to take their tourism experience concept down the commercialisation runway from idea to reality.

“As founder of theSPACE, a regional incubator based in Cairns, he has worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs including high school students, small to medium enterprises, governments and corporate employees to help them commercialise their ideas.

“Bram Collins from Undara Experience will provide his insights on how to implement best-practice from his own family’s experience establishing their business, The Undara Experience, created by Bram’s father Gerry Collins.

“Bram, who grew up with the lava tubes as an adventure playground, is the Managing Director and works with the team to deliver the product and service that the Undara Experience has become famous for.

“I will talk about how attendees can align their tourism experience to the broader TNQ tourism strategic plan to ensure they can maximise their marketing.”

The TNQ Tourism Small Business Development Program is for TTNQ member and non-member businesses that receive a significant portion of revenue from tourism and have less than 20 full-time equivalent employees. Those with the intention to start a small tourism business are also eligible to attend.

The workshop is free of charge, includes morning tea and can be booked online. For more information on the workshop or to book your spot, go to ttnq.org.au and click on Resources and then Small Business.
