Cairns & Great Barrier Reef expertise on show

Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef will showcase the region’s capabilities to business event planners from around the world at the Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meetings Expo (AIME) in Melbourne on February 18-20.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) General Manager Rosie Douglas said the team would be joined by the Cairns Convention Centre, Crystalbrook Collection, Pullman Reef Hotel Casino, NQ Exhibitions, Pullman Cairns International, Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, Sunlover Reef Cruises, Business Events Port Douglas, Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns and Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas.

“With new events products launched in Cairns and millions of dollars of investment underway in tourism infrastructure we anticipate strong interest from buyers looking for a destination for their meeting, incentive or conference,” she said.

“Our group has two days of solid appointments with key decision makers wanting the edge for their next event and our job will be to show why Cairns & Great Barrier Reef will give them the unique point of difference to make their event a success.

“With the first of the three Crystalbrook hotels open, the Shangri-La refurbishment complete, Sunlover Funlover’s event space on the Great Barrier Reef and the opening of the Cairns Performing Arts Centre, we have exciting new products to share with them.
“In addition to this new infrastructure we have the dual World Heritage areas of the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforest, a rich Indigenous culture and unique wildlife which present diverse opportunities for creating an event to remember.

“Whether it is a conference for 2500 at the award-winning Cairns Convention Centre, a meeting at an international hotel in Cairns or Port Douglas or a gala dinner at a unique outdoor location, Cairns & Great Barrier Reef has the venue to meet the needs of any event.
“The Cairns & Great Barrier Reef destination is supported by a professional and cohesive business events industry which works together to ensure each meeting and incentive is given VIP status.

“Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef confirmed more than $111 million worth of events in the last financial year.

“These are important to our region as they give high-value travellers a reason to travel to the destination during the shoulder seasons assisting with TTNQ’s strategy to achieve $3.5 billion in expenditure by 2020.”
